BROMO - SUKAMADE - IJEN CRATER
5Days/4Nigths Package in 4WD vehicle
Starting point : You may start this tour from Surabaya (hotel, airport or train station), or if you came from Yogyakarta by train you can drop off in Kertosono, the small city near Jombang.
Day 1 : Transfer to Malang
Pickup and drive to Malang. Short city drive in Malang and then drop in Santika Hotel.
Day 2 : Malang - Bromo - Kalibaru
A long day trip. Departure at 02.30 in the morning.
It takes about 2.5 hours to get to Penanjakan in Bromo mountain area. This is the best site to observe the sunrise, at 2700 mts altitude. Afterward we take you down to the sand sea and approach the crater. Crater observation.
Afterward onward to Lava View restaurant for breakfast.
This is the most interesting part of the day: instead of driving down northward to the main road we take you the back yard of mount Bromo, driving through the desolation and climbing up to the other side of the mount. There the views are stunning. A remote village is located on top on the mountain area, on the feet of Semeru, the highest volcano in Java. Visiting of the village and meeting with the villagers, the nice people of the mountain.
The ride continues, we bring you across one of the rainforests of Java, dense forest with lush vegetation, the real jungle. An hour and a half is needed to cross this rain forest, to let you appreciate the thickness of the vegetations till you arrive in a small city of Lumajang. Back to the main road. And then we drive you to the most eastern part of East Java, the region of rural life, plantations which is reminiscence of the Dutch colonial era.
Night at Kalibaru Cottages in Kalibaru.
Day 3 : Kalibaru - Sukamade
Morning departure toward Sukamade. The trip takes you toward the south Meru Betiri natural reserve, crossing the remote villages and the scarcely inhabited region in this part of Java. By mid afternoon we arrive at the plantation where we will spend the night in this guest house, simple but clean. Afternoon at leisure visiting the plantation and the surrounding area. Evening dinner. After dinner depart by jeep to the coast. The observation of the turtles coming from high seas to lay their eggs on the beach. After midnight normally no more turtle are supposed to land. Drive back to the hotel and spend the rest of the night at the guest house.
Day 4 : Sukamade - Ijen Resort
Leave the hotel in the morning to Muncar for visiting one of the biggest and the most crowded traditional fishing port of East Java. Hundreds of traditional fishing boats, beautifully colored and ornamented are colonizing the bay. From there on to Banyuwangi and further to Ijen resort and Villas, a beautiful resort located on the outskirt of the rainforest.
Day 5 : Ijen Crater - Denpasar
Early wake-up call. After breakfast at the hotel drive to the village of Licin and then in a four wheel drive vehicle to the slope of Mount Ijen, passing through plantations and rainforest. This is one of the few wildlife left in the island of Java with giant ferns and big trees. Pause at the Park Ranger’s post before hiking further up to the slope of the crater. About one hour and a half to two hours is needed to ascend the rim of the crater along a shady track with amazing views. Take a rest on the edge of the crater at 2883 meters altitude. The sulfuric lake reflects eerie color over the surrounding walls to give an apocalypse like impression. Men seeking the sulfur descend into the crater and climb back up along the dangerous rim with loads of up to 80 kilos on their shoulders. The crater observation will take at leisure. Back to the hotel for lunch.
By mid-afternoon departure for Denpasar. Arrival in denpasar in the evening.
